1962-67 Subframes, Springs, Bushings
1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967 nova alignment problem solver Part # loc-2
Global West Suspension has manufactured eccentric lock out kits for 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, and 1967 Novas for years. These particular years of Novas are notorious for having alignment problems. There are 4 things you must do if you are going to use a stock type front suspension for maintaining the alignment. First you need a set of lock outs part # loc-2. The lock out kit eliminates the eccentrics on the lower control arm. Eccentrics are offset cams that when turned, move the lower arm in or out, tilting the tire in the fender well. The alignment term is called camber. Camber has a direct relationship to tire wear, handling, and sometimes vehicle pull. The problem is occurs when the eccentric bolt slips causing it to rotate and shift the camber (your alignment) on the front end. Severe bumps, pot holes, and even cornering can create this problem. Once the eccentric has shifted you may feel the car drift, pull, or notice some instability. At this point your alignment is lost. The Loc-2 kit has 4 plates. Each plate has three holes drilled in it and are numbered for different offsets. By flipping the plate you can get six different positions for alignment which is more than adequate. Once the loc-2 bolts are tightened down in the frame the plate system will not allow for any slippage. The alignment, at least camber is maintained. The other 3 items are high density rubber strut rod bushings Part # srb-7, Lower control arm bearing kit part # SP-4, and finally installing Del-a-lum bushings in the idler arm and center link. The idler arm and center link have rubber bushings in them, allowing the toe to change on the passenger side. Unfortunately toe is divided by two and affects both tires equally. Toe causes tire wear, wondering, and a host of other conditions when not set properly. Ant steering components worn out in the system will create a problem. The rubber steering linkage bushings must get out of the system in order to get any kind of alignment control. Note: The center link is a modification Global West suspension does and requires the center link, idler arm bracket, and idler arm to be sent in for repair. It is not a part that can be ordered. Installation is simple and should be done when the car is being aligned.
