A majority of people we talk to are looking for a specific stance or look for their project at completion. After the build, the car needs to perform equal to or better than a new car. The car needs to handle, ride decent, be lowered 1 to 2 inches, bigger brakes, capable of going to the track, but most of all be enjoyable for the weekend cruise. This is what the KT423 kits are all about.
Let's look at the system. The modular spindle has a drop built into it. The spindle has a 1 inch drop, not 2.
However, when you put the spindle with our CNR-42H lower arm (supplied in the kit), on this platform, you will get another 1/2 inch drop. This particular kit is using a coilover shock/spring combination. We call it a hybrid because the top of the spring goes to the frame. A traditional coilover shock/spring combination would have the spring attaching to the top of the shock. The coilover shock in addition to the spindle drop allows you to fine tune the ride height. You can adjust 1 inch up to 1 1/4 down from where the spindle combination sets the car. The beauty of this is you maintain plenty of shock travel. You may ask why we are so concerned about shock travel. In a normal system using the current hybrid coilover shock and spring combinations, you have limitations. The car can only be lower around 1 1/4 inches before you start running into whether you have enough spring rate to keep the car from bottoming. If the spring has to soft a spring rate, the shock can bottom out over major bumps or the control arm hits it stops. Either way the ride of becomes harsh. Solutions to this would be to raise the cars ride height back up or increase the spring rate. Increasing the spring rate will reduce shock travel and reduce the tendency of bottoming. The side effect to the stiffer spring is a stiffer ride. To some they feel it is ride harshness. So when you hear people comment about coilover shocks causing ride harshness. That statement is not really true. It is due to the ride height selected and the amount of travel available. The real question is: What's it going to take to make it work at the desired ride height. What if we can get you the ride height and the ride? That's where this kit comes into play. This suspension system allows you to have a street/performance street spring rate without running into a condition causing a harsh ride.
Note: The modular spindle not only helps set ride height, it also changes the camber curve for better handling. Attach our steering knuckle to it and now we have the bump steer corrected and improved Ackerman.
Let's touch on what we mean when we say negative roll:
Negative roll refers to the suspension camber curve, tilt of the tire, as the tire moves up into the fender during body roll. The top of the tire tilts in towards the engine. This keeps the tire flatter on the pavement providing greater road grip. Normally a-bodies do the opposite during cornering, the top of the tire tilts towards the outside of the fender reducing tire contact with the pavement. This condition reduces cornering ability. The combination of components in KT423 kits reverse the factory tire geometry and provide superior handling over stock. Not only does the car handle better, the tires will last longer. Note: New alignment specifications are provided for KT423 kits.

The brake package supplied with this kit is a Wilwood, 6 piston, 13 inch diameter cross drilled and slotted rotor, aluminum hubs, aluminum hats, and performance pads. Wheel sizes required are a 17 inch diameter rim or larger. There are two reasons why we require a 17 inch diameter wheel. First the 13 inch disc brake must have a 17 inch diameter rim for clearance and second it is for clearing the steering linkage. Maximum backspace for the front wheels is 6 inches.
If you are looking to convert your 1968, 1969, or 1970 a-body big block over to front coilover suspension and make it handle on the street, have a decent ride, and have some fun, this is the package.
