Strut rods (technically called brake reaction strut rods) locate the lower control arm fore and aft in the fender well. Standard bushings deflect during acceleration and braking allowing the tire to move fore and aft in the fender well. This movement slightly changes the wheelbase; front-end alignment and directly affects the car’s stability. Stiffer strut rod bushings are one way of reducing the fore and aft movement issue.

Global West recommends using high-density rubber bushings over other materials which allow the strut rod to pivot with minimal fore and aft deflection. Other materials are often too stiff which may cause the strut rod to eventually break.

A more positive approach to the problem would be to install an adjustable strut rod kit with a spherical rod end in place of the rubber bushing. Global West’s strut rods are designed as a bolt on application. No welding or frame modifications are required. When using a strut rod design of this nature the deflection is totally eliminated. The suspension no longer deflects fore and aft. The vehicle now sees a lower a-arm rather than a two component system (strut rod & lower arm).

Strut rods are powder coated black

Adjusting sleeve uses a standard open-end wrench, no special tools required

Hardware is included with each kit

Bolt on application, no frame modifications

Performance strut rod bushings for Mustangs and other Ford applications definitely can use higher durometer bushings at this location.
High durometer bushings will control lower control arm location with limited deflection and still allow pivot over standard factory durometer. (Caution: Too high of a durometer bushing in this location can cause strut rod failure due to too much resistance in the direction of pivot. That is
why we prefer rubber in this location over other high density plastics).
Performance strut rod bushings will also provide better alignment, cornering, and braking control.
Easy installation, no modifications.

The new asr-8 strut rod kits replaces the stock units with a adjustable rod connected to a clevis and a performance aircraft rod end. This combination has been used on the racing circuit and street enthusiast camp for years on mustangs. It is now available for the Torino and Fairlane line.

Replacement strut rods for 1968-71 Torino applications. The strut rods are adjustable and are shipped assembled.
