Description

Strut rods, technically called brake reaction strut rods, attach to the lower control arm and control the tire motion fore and aft in the fender well. Global West Suspension sells adjustable strut rods for the 1968, 1969, and 1970 Mustang. The unit comes with a clevis, a spherical rod end, adjuster, and attachment rod to the lower arm. The stock rubber bushing and strut rod is eliminated.

Standard bushings deflect during acceleration and braking allowing the tire to no longer remain consistent in the fender well. This movement slightly changes the wheelbase; front-end alignment is directly affected and the cars stability suffers. Stiffer strut rod bushings are one way of reducing the fore and aft movement; however, too stiff a bushing can cause the strut rod to break.

Global West recommends using high-density rubber bushings over other materials which allow the strut rod to pivot with minimal fore and aft deflection. A more positive approach to the problem is to install a Global West adjustable strut rod.

Installation is simple, remove the factory rod and bushings and slide the new assembly up into the mount on the chassis and tighten down the clevis and rod to the lower control arm. There is no welding or frame modifications required. You will have to align the front end after installation. The strut rods are black powder coated and adjusters are zinc plated.
