Lateral location of the rear end has always been a problem on the 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 Impala due to the angle of the panhard rod at ride height. Raising or lowering the ride height shifts the rear end laterally (no longer in the center of the car) and causes the rear end to be unstable around turns and over bumps depending on the final angle of the panhard rod (not parallel to the ground). To fix this problem, Global West offers an adjustable panhard rod that uses our hex adjuster, a bearing rod end, and a grease-able urethane bushing. The panhard rod can be adjusted on the car for centering. If the panhard rod is not parallel to the ground, based on the vehicle ride height, a new adjustable panhard rod frame bracket is available. The bracket installs on the frame surrounding the stock mounting location and converts it over to a multi-hole frame mount. The multi-hole bracket allows you to bolt the panhard rod parallel to ground, or as close as possible, based on your ride height. This will correct the rear end lateral location problem. All kits are powder-coated black and supplied with new hardware.

Panhard rods are designed to reduce lateral movement of the rear axle in the chassis. One side attaches to the rear end while the other attaches to the frame or uni-body. The stock panhard rods generally are light duty and tend to deflect when the car is driven hard. Rear axle location is then compromised. Another condition regarding factory rods is that they are non-adjustable in length. Raising or lowering the car requires readjustment of the length in order to center the rear axle under the car. Failure to do so will result in possible tire rubbing on one side or suffer a distinct handling difference between right and left hand turns. Replacing the factory panhard rod with one of our performance units solves several problems.
