62-67 NOVA AND CHEVY II

Lower control arm bushing to bearing conversion.

One of the problems with Nova's going out of alignment is the lower control arm bushing. What happens is as the control arm moves up and down, the twisting load works on the lower eccentric bolt. The eccentric bolt controls the camber and if moved will also affect the castor and the toe. When bushings are replaced, most people do not realize that there are 2 step down spacers the reduce the through bolt size of the bushing down to 1/2-inch. The spacers look like they are part of the old bushing and are thrown out. The new bushings do not come with the step down washers. If you install the bushings as is there will be a gap between the bolt and the inside of the bushing. What will happen is that the car will align on the rack, but after you drive it the alignment will go out around the block. It will never maintain alignment. We produce a bearing kit that removes all the twisting loads on the eccentric. Part # SP-4 replaces the lower control arm bushing with a spherical bearing and steel spacers so the arm moves properly without slippage or bind. Welding is required however the rewards are great.
Part # SP-4 -- Costs $169.72--- one kit per car.

Note: Sp-4 has a great benefit for drag racing.
