1958-64 Impala Tubular Upper Control Arms
Part # CTA-84A upper control arm kit for 1958-64 Impala's changes the way the car drives and performs. The wander and vague road feel is dramatically improved, even though it's through the stock steering components. We designed a suspension system front to rear, addressing the problems associated with this older platform. The concept was not to make a race car and destroy the ride, but to bring the car up to modern day standards. With this in mind the following improvements are achieved with the upper arm only.
  •  Straight-line stability for high speed freeway cruising.
  • Greater tire contact patch on the ground during cornering (through new geometry). Making the car safer in all driving conditions.
  • Improved tire wear. (reducing outside tire wear).

Adding the total package from front to rear will give you the end results of our efforts.

Due to the nature of the stock shafts, we redesigned the upper control arm shafts to accommodate a cleaner look in the engine compartment. The photo below shows a stock upper control arm shaft verses a Global West billet shaft. You will notice the new shafts do not have a bend in them. We designed the new shaft to clear the steering shaft and frame without requiring the odd looking shaft. This shaft will only work with Global West control arms. Another unique feature about these shafts is that they are offset. See photo to the right.

If you look closely to the shaft you will see the area where the bushing rides is not in centerline with the rest of the shaft. The offset allows you to flip the shaft over if your alignment is off due to the frame or if your ride height is lower then what we designed for. We pre-assemble the control arms based on our system. If you have a vehicle 3 to4 inches lower then stock. We also designed a heavier offset shaft that can be used with the new arm. These are special order and do not come in a standard kit. They must be special ordered direct from Global West. ( The photo below shows the difference between the two shafts).

The control arms powder coated black and are pre-assembled with Del-a-lum bushings, billet cross shafts, stock upper ball joints, bump stops, and hardware. New alignment specifications are also provided.
